Please answer the following questions on this form (or on a paper copy of this form).

  1. Label the legs of a right triangle meeting at the right angle a and b. Label the hypotenuse c. Label the angle opposite a as A, and the angle opposite b as B. For each of the following right triangle cases, you will be given either 2 side, or a side an an angle. Give all the sides and both angles, showing your work, not just giving an answer: 1) a = 4, B = 30 degrees; 2) a = 3, b = 4; 3) b = 12, B = 45 degrees; 4) a = 5000, c = 10000

  2. Label the sides of a triangle and a, b and c, the angle opposite side a as A, the angle opposite side b as B and the angle opposite side c as C. For each of the following general triangle cases, apply the law of sines or the law of cosines and your knowledge of the sum of the angles in a triangle to find all the sides and all the angles given part of the information, showing your work, not just giving an answer: 1) a = b = c = 1; 2) a = b = 1, C = 120 degreees; 3) a = b = 1, A = 45 degrees; 4) a = 10, b = 20, C = 75 degrees

  3. For each of the following triangles, compute the area. Show your work. 1) a = b = c = 1; 2) a = b = 1, C = 120 degreees; 3) a = b = 1, A = 45 degrees; 4) a = 10, b = 20, C = 75 degrees

  4. Carefully define simple harmonic motion, and explain the amplitude, period and frequency of harmonic motion.

  5. Carefully define damped harmonic motion, and explain the damping factor, amplitude and period of damped harmonic motion.

  6. Carefully using words, not pictures, explain how to graph the sum of two functions.
