This is the 7th quiz for BIOL 670/470 to be taken on Tuesday, 30 March 2017 immediately after the weekly e-meeting. You have one day in which to answer the two questions. You may use the notes on your blog, but the answers are not just waiting for you in the book. Thinking is required.

Please answer the following two questions on this form (or on a paper copy of this form).

  1. Give some serious thought to this question. In the tutorial you will have computed descriptive statistics on height and weight date for a mixed population of men and women. Does the height and weight data seem to fit a Gaussian distribution? If so, in what ways? If not, in what ways? In describing this data statistically, what can you say about it that is most meaningful. If you missed the e-meeting or have not yet really looked at the data, get the dataset from Professor Karl L. Wuensch's SPSS-Data Page at East Carolina University: http://core.ecu.edu/psyc/wuenschk/SPSS/SPSS-Data.htm in the http://core.ecu.edu/psyc/wuenschk/SPSS/SexHeightWeight.sav download link, run PSPP on it and then answer this question.

  2. Now give the most meaningful descriptive statistics you can for the heights and weights of the people in the dataset in the prior question.
