Overall assignment for the semester: You are to view all the assigned videos, read all of the following pages from the text book, doing all exercises and problems. As you read each section, you should prepare notes. Then you should use those notes to take the assigned quizzes.

Most of the videos for the course are from the Khan Academy (http://www.khanacademy.org). Be sure to make use of the "Pactice this Concept" button on the videos that have one. It is very important that you register for the Khan Academy, select the instructor (yayahjb@gmail.com) as a coach, and be logged in when you do the drills. That is how you will get credit for doing the drills.

Assignment Schedule (subject to change during the semester):
Do the quizzes by the indicated due date. Quizzes with live links are ready to take.

5 The next chapter, Chapter 4, on Linear and Quadratic Functions is very important. Study it carefully and contact the instructor with questions. The five chapters, R, 1, 2, 3, and 4 are what you will be responsible for for the midterm, which will be the assignment after this one. It is very important that you practice using Skype to contact the instructor, both to ensure your are prepared for the content of the midterm and to practice the mechanics of using Skype, that will be used to give you the midterm.

The midterm for this course may be taken either on Monday, 11 March 2013, from 8-10 pm, or on Thursday, 14 March 2013 from 8-10 pm. In either case the midterm will be supervised via Skype, so it is essential that you each verify that you have working Skype access with a web cam and a good internet connection well before the midterm. Please contact me via Skype (yayahjb) as soon as possible, both to verify your Skype access and to inform me as to which of the two alternate midterms you will be taking.

In addition you may make an appointment to take the midterm face-to-face on Tuesday, 12 March 2013 at 1 pm in B205 in the B-building on the Brookhaven campus.

Please send email no later than Tuesday, 5 March 2013 as to which date you will be taking the midterm or to deal with any conflicts you may have.

9 We have now completed the core material for this course. There are two ways to successfully complete this course: either learn the material up to this point very well, or, if you wish, keep going and learn the material past this point, either to help you better understand the basic material and do better in the final on that, or as extra credit to help make up for difficulties you may have with the basic material. We will specifically assign and highly recommend the material on Chapters 9 and 10 on Applications of the Trigonometric Functions and on Polar Coordinates; Vectors, but feel free to choose any 2 or more of chapters 9 through 14 of Sullivan to work on instead.

If you intend to continue in math, doing all of them is highly recommended. To help you demonstrate your mastery of the material, you need to do the relevant Khan Academy drills, and to take a quiz. The quizzes for chapters 9 and 10 are provided here. If you choose alternate or additional chapters, contact the instructor for the approrpriate quiz links.

Quiz 9 and Quiz 10 are avilable now. Contact the instructor no later than Sunday 5 May if you need a quiz for any of the other chapters to display proficiency in those chapters.
The final for this course may be taken either on Monday, 6 May 2013, from 8-10 pm, or you may make an approintment to take the final face-to-face on Tuesday, 7 May 2013 in room B205 on the Brookhaven campus from 1 to 3 pm.

Important Half the value of the final will be for successfully doing a selected set of the drills from the Khan Academy for chapters 3 -- 8. You are urged to work on those drills in advance of taking the final, both to help prepare you and to ensure full credit on the final.

Please send email no later than Tuesday, 30 April 2013 as to which date you will be taking the final or to deal with any conflicts you may have.
